The space shuttle Columbia has exploded with the loss of all hands. Further details. It now seems likely that ultra-hot gas, rather than plasma, penetrated the skin of the shuttle, causing the structural aluminium to fail.
RFID: The New Big Brother? An interesting discussion regarding how we might wind up being trackable everywhere, all the time. Radio Frequency IDentity tags are the future, and will further flood the foothills, meaning the plebs running the tills are fired and the computer checks the RFID tags and debits your bank account automatically. If you don't turn off the tags, though, you can be tracked (almost) anywhere!

Actually, a much better link is this site run by a Russian company. The Japanese railway design is very cool!
Here is an article about using giant airships to fight forest fires-they can carry a lot more water! Alas, the predicted world shortage of helium may put the brakes on the idea, rather than the fires. (It seems the biggest player in the field has gone bankrupt, too! Farewell Cargolifter!)Can you imagine using hydrogen airship?
If you have a brilliant idea, please do feel free to protect it. Use Secrecy and your brain. Also, remember that it probably isn't new! You could also publish it online, to prevent anyone from patenting it, including you. Find out a bit about patents.
